About the painting:
Frida has always been divided between her admiration by the United States (developed country) and his love for Mexico. Her vision confuses these two very different worlds that are represented in the drawing by the clouds. It also shows that she did not accept being framed in an artistic current (like surrealism) or to make part of the same camp as the "Parisian pseudo-intellectuals ". The door in her throat as well as her men's clothes represent the political commitment, especially as a feminist. She was painting her reality as she felt it (heart), not what she saw. But for her, it was completely real.
Other elements refer to her experience, like changing her initial plan to study the medicine, and her new job as an artist. In the background, we can see NYC / Detroit, where she exposed and also the lost of her child. Beside her, her dog represents his attachment to animals, often described as his only honest company, a source of comfort among the confusion of his life.
